Work out the pattern. The formula follows.
Most math arrives as a rule to memorize, then drill. Here your child notices the pattern first, tests it, and only then names the formula. It becomes something they worked out themselves, so it still makes sense when the question changes shape.
The Pattern-First Year
Guided missions that build the idea before the formula, practice with fresh numbers every attempt, chapter tests with full solutions, and a discussion board where I answer your child’s questions myself.

Math books that start with the pattern.
Print at home and write on the pages. Every activity starts with discovery, and the formula or trick is named only once your child has worked out why it holds.

Pattern-First Coordinate Geometry
Grades 8–9 printable workbook. The whole chapter built from one idea: distance on a grid is the Pythagorean theorem in a new setting. Seven guided discovery activities, a chapter quiz, and a homework worksheet with worked solutions.
Pattern-First Algebra

A teacher who built every activity, and answers the questions.
I’m Smita. For the last eight years I have taught and graded mathematics for a US-based competition math program, where students are expected to justify every step and not just reproduce one. Before that I trained as a mechanical engineer and worked in the aeronautical industry, which is where I learned that a formula you can’t derive is a formula you don’t own.
Patterns and Proofs is that standard, brought to families everywhere through printable workbooks, and through the Pattern-First Year, a membership of guided interactive missions for Classes 8–10. I work from Bhubaneswar.

Before you ask me by email
Which curriculum is this for?
Neither is tied to one board. The printable workbooks cover core ideas found in most grade 8–9 and Algebra 1 sequences. The Pattern-First Year teaches the core ideas of Classes 8–10 and works with any board. Your school may order topics differently, so use either one alongside what your child is learning in class.
What is Math Magic Missions?
A series of printable books of mental-math tricks. Every trick is set up as a mission: crack the mystery, learn the secret behind it, practise on a Bronze, Silver and Gold ladder, then play a game with it. Book 1 is Squaring Secrets.
Can families outside India join the Year?
Yes. The missions work for any board, and the Year is $69.90 USD for families outside India. It is a single payment for 12 months of access, with a 7-day refund window.
Workbook or the Year: which should I choose?
A workbook suits you if you want one chapter on paper. The Year suits you if you want guided missions on a phone or computer, chapter tests across Classes 8–10, and a discussion board where I answer.
What currency are the prices in?
Workbooks are priced in US dollars, and your card or PayPal converts to your currency at checkout. The Pattern-First Year is ₹6,699 in India, or $69.90 USD for families elsewhere. Each is a single payment.
Is the Year a subscription?
No. It is one payment for 12 months of access, so there is nothing to cancel and no automatic renewal.
What if the Year isn’t right for my child?
You can ask for a full refund within 7 days of payment, once you have tried at least one activity and as long as you have not gone beyond the first three activities. Email sm****@***************fs.com with your name and the email you signed up with. Refunds go back to your original payment method, in the currency you paid in, within 7 working days. After that, the annual fee is non-refundable. The full wording is in the membership terms.
Can I print a workbook more than once?
Yes. Print as many copies as your own family needs.
My child is in Class 10 already. Is it too late for the Year?
No, but be realistic about what it is for. The Class 10 diagnostic will show you which foundations are shaky. If the gaps are in Class 9 algebra, the Year fixes exactly that, and those are the gaps that cost marks in board and school exams.
Not every chapter in the Year is built yet. Why pay full price?
Because the year includes everything released during it, at no extra cost, and the chapters marked ready are complete. If the ready chapters don’t cover what your child needs right now, wait. I would rather you joined at the right time than felt short-changed.
Who answers when my child gets stuck?
I do. In the Year, questions go to a discussion board that I read and reply on myself. There is no support team, which is the point.
