Who I Teach

Let’s Talk

I read every message that comes through this site myself. If you have a question about the course, or you’re not sure whether it’s the right fit for your child, just reach out through the contact form in that page. I’m happy to talk it through before you sign up for anything.

Try a free activity, or take the Class 9 readiness diagnostic, to see how this actually feels before committing to anything.

About me

Hi, I’m Smita. I teach online mathematics and before that, I spent 8 years as a mechanical engineer in the aeronautical industry. Engineering taught me something that stuck with me long after I left the industry: a formula is only useful if you understand why it works. Plugging numbers into an equation without knowing where it came from is a fragile kind of knowledge — it breaks the moment a problem looks even slightly unfamiliar.

That’s the whole premise behind how I teach math. Every chapter starts with an activity, not a lecture. Students explore a pattern, notice something themselves, and only then are given the formula that names what they’ve already found. It takes longer than simply stating the rule and moving to practice problems. But it’s the difference between a student who can recall a formula and a student who can actually reason with one.
